Each morning, I wake up to a lovely home and a vivacious family. I feel grateful for the things that I have.

At times, I struggle financially. However, I always keep my head above water. Sometimes, that means forgoing an evening at a restaurant and having dinner at home to save some money.

I refrain from thinking I can buy happiness with money. Luxuries are just extra icing on the cake. Sure, I enjoy luxuries when I can, but they are unnecessary for my happiness.

I banish negative thoughts and comparing my life to others that have greater financial means. I have plenty of abundance in my life and am grateful for what I have.

So what if my house is smaller than the neighbor’s? Does it really matter if I choose the store-brand over name-brand groceries?

I am a humble person with a clear vision of what is important. I am thankful that I have been blessed with the basic necessities. Even in these tough economic times, I am surviving just fine and that is all that matters.

Today, I allow my inner priorities to guide my life, rather than material conquests. I am content with my life and make do with what I have.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. Do I try to impress others with my ability to purchase luxury items?
2. Why do I care what other people think of my economic status?
3. How can I be content with what I have?

Self-discipline is a powerful attribute to have, yet challenging to obtain.

Self-discipline is the ability to do whatever it takes to overcome obstacles and reach your goals, even when it’s inconvenient or uncomfortable. It may involve saying: “no” to things you want or saying: “yes” to things you hate, but with the power of self-discipline, it becomes easier to stand up for yourself.

Most individuals would love to be more self-disciplined, yet very few people actually take action to acquire it.

Perhaps you start your day with good intentions, but veer off as the day progresses due to challenging issues, stresses, or distractions. Thankfully, there are some strategies you can incorporate into your daily life so you can become a master of self-discipline and stay on task.

Follow these techniques to strengthen your self-discipline:

Be committed to the cause. Are you truly unhappy being undisciplined? Is this something that you’re committed to improving? Many times people claim they want to be more self- disciplined, but the truth is, they honestly don’t mind being the way they are.

Be honest with yourself. If this is something that you definitely want to improve in your life, it may take a bit of time and effort, but it can be done.

The only way you’ll succeed is by staying committed to the cause.

Write it down. The process of writing your ideas and goals helps you clarify the thoughts in your mind so you can come up with an action plan that you can stick to.

Write down all the areas that you wish to improve – your finances, relationships, career, or anything in between. Include what changes you would like to see and how you believe will be the best way to make it happen.

Enlist the help of others. It’s absolutely wonderful that you’ve committed to make a positive change in your life, but don’t keep it under wraps. Tell others that you want to make a change and boost your self-discipline.

Don’t be ashamed that you weren’t more self-disciplined from the beginning. The important thing is that you’re now taking positive action! Those who love you will be there to support you and help you celebrate your successes.

Your support group can also help you get through the bad days and put you back on track to achieve your goals.

Believe in yourself. Have faith in yourself and know that if you can master your self-discipline, you can do anything! There will be both good and bad days, but as long as you remain focused and committed, you’ll be successful in strengthening your self-discipline.

Remember to focus on the big picture and concentrate on how your body, mind, and energy will change for the better when you stay committed.

Many people admire those who are self-disciplined. These people can stay on a schedule and never seem to lose focus on what they need to accomplish. They make more wise decisions, take action when they need to, and achieve their goals with relative ease.

Implement these strategies into your daily life and they’ll soon become habits. Self-discipline can become your way of life – if you want it!

Every goal can be divided into a list of tasks. Each day, whether at home or work, includes a variety of missions to accomplish. By starting with the easy tasks and completing them quickly, I am well on my way to achieving my goals.

Completing easy tasks first builds forward momentum that sustains me. And with each success, I gain an even greater confidence in my ability. I find I’m “on a roll” and strive to maintain it as long as possible with every project.

When I get stuck on a particular item on my to-do list, I simply rearrange the remaining tasks so I can tackle some easy ones again. Once I complete a couple of the easier ones, I am off again toward success!

Momentum is an awesome force. It’s like a snowball rolling down a mountain. Once it gets going, it rolls faster and faster, getting bigger and bigger as it catapults down the mountain. Yet all it takes to get it started is one little push!

Scheduling the easy tasks first is like giving myself that one little push to get me started. Then, once I get going, I gain extra energy from the momentum. Each task I complete adds to the force that keeps me going.

Today, I choose to be like the snowball, gaining more energy and confidence as I roll through my day. I am unstoppable! Nothing can stop me from success because I know that, with my confidence and courage, I can overcome any obstacle that arises in my path.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. Have I divided my goals into a list of tasks, scheduling the easy ones first?
2. Do I jump into my daily routine with some easy tasks to give me momentum?
3. Am I stuck with a particular task? What easy task can I accomplish to get me moving again?

I trust my ability to make the right decisions.

I trust my ability to make the right decisions because I have taken the time and effort to think clearly and surround myself with wise people.

I let go of the idea that I should automatically know the answer to everything. While I am unafraid of tackling a problem on my own, I am also aware that I am strongest as part of a community.

I am fully willing to assist those younger and less experienced than I, and so I am confident that my older and wiser peers are equally eager to help me. I take advantage of that, knowing that I can only be my best if I make use of the many resources at my disposal.

However, I may not always have access to guidance. In this case, I advise myself by recalling my past experiences.

I think about my goals and whether the situation at hand will assist me in reaching them or whether it will hinder me in some way.

I think about my energy level and skills and assess honestly whether I am capable of taking on the task. If I do decide to take it, I make it a point to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses and where I may need help.

Because I pay attention to the lessons I have learned from my past, and because I have a clear picture of where I am headed in the future, I know that I can make wise choices.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. Who can I consult when I need advice?

2. Do I keep a clear picture of my goals in mind when making decisions?

3. What have I learned from past experiences that I can apply to current decisions?

Through my gifts and talents, I have the ability to improve any situation. I have been created to inspire those who I have attracted into my life. Often others feel like they have been uplifted after they interact with me.

My words are always filled with genuine compliments. My conversations have substance because I stay away from empty chatter. When others spend time with me, they leave feeling like they are a better person for it.

Speaking positively, I push others to exceed their expectations. My friends know they can always count on me to defy expectations and believe in the impossible. By believing in others, I am able to motivate them to reach their potential.

My vocabulary is free from negativity and harsh criticism because those two are the enemies of success.

In order to reach a goal, I must visualize it first and then affirm it with my words. That is why I only speak of things that are to come and never focus on the “what ifs.”

My actions are like building blocks for people’s self image; therefore, I am well received. People love to be around me because I can help them change their outlook. I can change the course of someone’s day with my contagious positivity.

With my words I can turn a frown into a smile. With my actions I can turn a stranger into a friend. I can inspire a coward to become brave if I am daring enough myself to allow the power within me to affect other people.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. How does my life make a difference in the lives of others?
2. Do my words destroy or build up others?
3. Do people seem to enjoy my company?
