After all, most of your waking hours each year are spent at work!

If you struggle to find happiness in your current line of work, you may be experiencing a temporary lack of motivation that will quickly disappear. Or it may be a signal that it’s time for a change.

A career choice is more than just paying the bills and putting food on the table. You deserve to spend your days doing work you enjoy and your career should align with your values and goals. You owe it to yourself to find within you the courage to change your career direction!

Take Your Time

A career change is an opportunity to think carefully about your values and determine what matters most to you. This takes time. Be patient and give yourself permission to take the time you need to determine what’s most important to you in your career.

Ask Questions

Ask yourself some questions to explore your values and find out what’s important to you. Why did you choose your career in the first place? What did you like about this line of work? Have those elements of your job disappeared through changes that have taken place, or have you simply forgotten what drew you to this line of work in the first place?

What do you wish you were doing instead? Is there a job within your current company that can better utilize your talents in a more interesting position? Seek advice from your employer on opportunities that exist within your company to learn new skills or transfer to a more interesting position.

Take Small Steps

Take baby steps towards the life you crave. While it may seem right to run away from your current career as fast as you can, a hurried approach may backfire. If you take the time to think through your decisions and make the best decision possible, you’ll experience greater joy and fulfillment in the long run.

Chase your big dreams by breaking them down into small, manageable action steps. Seek the advice of others who are already successful in the line of work you’re seeking to enter into. Structure your goals in a way that allows you to attain regular feedback on your progress, so you know when you’re on track and when you’re off course.

Respect Your Current Employer

When it’s time to leave, do so gracefully. As you move closer and closer to the career change you seek, continue to perform your current job to the best of your ability. You may need your current employer as a reference, and an attitude of service will increase your self-confidence as you prepare for a dramatic change in your life.

Believe in Yourself

Trust your instincts and your ability to succeed. You can achieve any goal that you set out to accomplish. With proper planning and a hunger to succeed, you’ll experience the career success you crave. Keep your dreams in front of you, believe you can achieve them, and begin today to take the first steps toward the career you are destined to enjoy.

Photo by wili_hybridWhen life seems like a never-ending stream of work and responsibilities, I board the boat of tranquility and enjoy the ride. Even when navigating through rough waters, with courage as my sail, I am able to get across any obstacle.

Fear is absent from my journey because my bold spirit is stronger than the force of worry. Peace is the anchor that holds my life in place. I am organized and I have a plan of action, which keeps me calm when faced with a storm.

I cross the storms in front of me free from hesitation because I am secure in my ability to navigate through storms with ease. I have the necessary tools to keep my life afloat. My skills, accompanied by a strong support group, keep me above water.

The knowledge that I am not alone propels me to take even more risks. I am certain that my steps are ordered by my Creator and I will not be forsaken. My family and my friends are also there for me no matter what happens along the way.

Even when others refuse to get in the water, I dare to take risks because I believe the end result is worth it. The new adventures that I will enjoy by diving in will far outweigh the regrets I would have if I didn’t take the risk.

Today, I am taking chances and stepping in the water with confidence. I sail though the storms of this day with courage and boldness, convinced that my vessel will safely reach the other side.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. What anchors are present in my life?
2. Who is supporting me through my journey?
3. What chances can I take today?

My expectations come with its own eraser, so I can always make changes at will.

Change in my life is like putting on a new outfit that shows off the fresh, enhanced me.

There is nothing like the feeling of wearing a new outfit for the first time! It shows a new image of me. I am still the same person inside those new clothes, but I am rejuvenated with the new addition.

When I incorporate new changes into my life, I get that same feeling as when I wear a new outfit. The changes only enhance who I am! Even though it is still the same me, part of me is fresh and new, like wearing new clothes.

My new image shows courage to tackle new things. As humans, we tend to resist change. It takes courage and strength of character to be willing to embrace change to meet our goals or accept it when it is forced upon us by circumstance.

My new image displays creativity. I can think “outside the box” in order to accomplish what I desire. If I need to change my planned path from time to time to solve a problem or overcome a challenge, I gladly go shopping for the changes that will enhance me.

My new image reveals my passion for life. Change is an exciting part of life and it allows me to become the person I want to be. If I do not change and grow, I get as stale as old clothes. And who wants that? Not me! I welcome the freshness of change!

Today, I choose to embrace the changes that will allow the new me to sparkle. I can learn something new, adopt a positive habit that brings me joy, or solve a challenge.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. Do I resist change, even when it can improve my life?
2. Am I comfortable with changing my path in order to achieve my goals?
3. How have changes in my life enhanced me?

I can create a clear set of directions for my goals.

By managing the easy tasks first, I can gain momentum and self-confidence.

Every goal can be divided into a list of tasks. Each day, whether at home or work, includes a variety of missions to accomplish. By starting with the easy tasks and completing them quickly, I am well on my way to achieving my goals.

Completing easy tasks first builds forward momentum that sustains me. And with each success, I gain an even greater confidence in my ability. I find I’m “on a roll” and strive to maintain it as long as possible with every project.

When I get stuck on a particular item on my to-do list, I simply rearrange the remaining tasks so I can tackle some easy ones again. Once I complete a couple of the easier ones, I am off again toward success!

Momentum is an awesome force. It’s like a snowball rolling down a mountain. Once it gets going, it rolls faster and faster, getting bigger and bigger as it catapults down the mountain. Yet all it takes to get it started is one little push!

Scheduling the easy tasks first is like giving myself that one little push to get me started. Then, once I get going, I gain extra energy from the momentum. Each task I complete adds to the force that keeps me going.

Today, I choose to be like the snowball, gaining more energy and confidence as I roll through my day. I am unstoppable! Nothing can stop me from success because I know that, with my confidence and courage, I can overcome any obstacle that arises in my path.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. Have I divided my goals into a list of tasks, scheduling the easy ones first?
2. Do I jump into my daily routine with some easy tasks to give me momentum?
3. Am I stuck with a particular task? What easy task can I accomplish to get me moving again?
