Photo by Jesse GardnerI am in absolute control of my finances. I take time to prepare a budget and ensure that all bills are paid off before indulging in luxuries. Each dollar that comes out of my pocket is spent on a purchase with a purpose!

Small financial sacrifices that I make today enable me to build a promising tomorrow for my family. Can I do without a top-of-the-line cell phone? Yes I can! Can I live without Starbucks? I sure can!

Millions of people live without such luxuries each day and manage to get by just fine. I can be one of those people. I know that cutting down on my spending habits puts more money in my pocket over time.

When I was younger, I often made impulse purchases, but now I have come to realize that the little things really do add up. Now, when I am tempted to make a purchase over $50, I give myself 24 hours to think it over.

Though conveniences are nice, I am perfectly aware that they come at a premium. For this reason, I brew my own coffee in the morning, pack my lunch for work, and chop my own vegetables. A small time investment can result in great savings!

Saving for a rainy day is number one on my list of priorities. If I have a dime to spare, a nickel goes to my savings account. Even seemingly insignificant contributions can make a big difference in the long run.

Today, I laugh in the face of temptation. I am now equipped with the mindset to ward off frivolous spending.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. Do I use shopping as an emotional crutch?
2. What are my financial goals and how can I work toward achieving them?
3. Can I minimize my expenses by doing things myself?

Photo by Darrren HesterI envision myself with a savings account large enough to secure my family in the face of change. I am proactive toward giving the gift of financial security to my family and myself.

My goal is to be able to retire and continue to live well. In order to reach that goal, I must make some adjustments to my current lifestyle. By living below my means, I am setting myself up for a lifetime of provision.

My spending habits are a reflection of my true desires. I research before making major purchases. Comparison-shopping helps me to get the best deals available.

My motivation for making purchases is need, not greed. Before I buy, I ask myself, “Do I really need this right now?” The money I am saving by exercising restraint is going toward more important things in life, such as college funds or retirement savings.

I am free from the pressure of trying to impress others, because I am loved for who I am, not for what I have.

If I am out with my friends and one makes an expensive purchase, I am fine just sitting back and watching, without needing to make a large purchase of my own.

In the future, I will appreciate my wise financial decisions. I am building wealth to secure myself and leave an inheritance for my children.

When I focus on the good things that I have, I overflow with enough gratitude to drown out the materialistic side of me. The self-control needed to abstain from unnecessary purchases is within me.

Today, I count my blessings and appreciate what I have. I envision myself enjoying my future thanks to the decisions I make today.

Self-Reflection Questions:

1. What can I do to resist the temptation to spend too much?
2. When was the last time I balanced my budget and made a financial plan?
3. What is my vision for my financial future?

Self-discipline is a powerful attribute to have, yet challenging to obtain.

Self-discipline is the ability to do whatever it takes to overcome obstacles and reach your goals, even when it’s inconvenient or uncomfortable. It may involve saying: “no” to things you want or saying: “yes” to things you hate, but with the power of self-discipline, it becomes easier to stand up for yourself.

Most individuals would love to be more self-disciplined, yet very few people actually take action to acquire it.

Perhaps you start your day with good intentions, but veer off as the day progresses due to challenging issues, stresses, or distractions. Thankfully, there are some strategies you can incorporate into your daily life so you can become a master of self-discipline and stay on task.

Follow these techniques to strengthen your self-discipline:

Be committed to the cause. Are you truly unhappy being undisciplined? Is this something that you’re committed to improving? Many times people claim they want to be more self- disciplined, but the truth is, they honestly don’t mind being the way they are.

Be honest with yourself. If this is something that you definitely want to improve in your life, it may take a bit of time and effort, but it can be done.

The only way you’ll succeed is by staying committed to the cause.

Write it down. The process of writing your ideas and goals helps you clarify the thoughts in your mind so you can come up with an action plan that you can stick to.

Write down all the areas that you wish to improve – your finances, relationships, career, or anything in between. Include what changes you would like to see and how you believe will be the best way to make it happen.

Enlist the help of others. It’s absolutely wonderful that you’ve committed to make a positive change in your life, but don’t keep it under wraps. Tell others that you want to make a change and boost your self-discipline.

Don’t be ashamed that you weren’t more self-disciplined from the beginning. The important thing is that you’re now taking positive action! Those who love you will be there to support you and help you celebrate your successes.

Your support group can also help you get through the bad days and put you back on track to achieve your goals.

Believe in yourself. Have faith in yourself and know that if you can master your self-discipline, you can do anything! There will be both good and bad days, but as long as you remain focused and committed, you’ll be successful in strengthening your self-discipline.

Remember to focus on the big picture and concentrate on how your body, mind, and energy will change for the better when you stay committed.

Many people admire those who are self-disciplined. These people can stay on a schedule and never seem to lose focus on what they need to accomplish. They make more wise decisions, take action when they need to, and achieve their goals with relative ease.

Implement these strategies into your daily life and they’ll soon become habits. Self-discipline can become your way of life – if you want it!

Mindset of Abundance vs. Mindset of Lack and Poverty

The “Science of Getting Rich” is a book written by Wallace D. Wattles in 1910. This book tells the reader that there is a scientific way of getting rich. First and foremost, he told us that all humans long to live life abundantly – physically, emotionally, intellectually, financially and in all aspects of life. To live life in anyway in short of what life has to offer in all its fullness is not the will of the creator.

He taught us the right mindset towards being rich is a mindset of abundance. The mindset that most of us have towards riches is one of poverty and lack – there is not enough to go round for anyone. If someone else has more, then I will have less if not, none. Consequently, we compete and undermine others in the attempt to gather more for ourselves. This mindset drives us in the wrong methods of gathering wealth as well as to perceive riches as evil. Wallace D. Wattles taught us in the book, “The Science of Getting Rich” to have a wholesome thought of blessing others. If we are a merchant, then we should always think of delivering not just the best of our products and services to our clients but in excess of what our clients pay us for. Contrary to traditional views of sacrificing oneself for the sake of others, Wallace D. Wattles does not advocate that line of thinking as that comes from a perspective of lack and poverty. To bless others, one must be living in abundance and it is through living in abundance that one can truly bless others and bring riches to them. The way to truly bless the poor is to make them rich.

Wallace D. Wattles – The Author

Wallace D. Wattles was a man who lived during the war of the states in the mid 1800s. His life was full of failures until he realized the principles of getting rich. He put the principles he came to understand into practice and he began to see riches and success abounding in his life. He put these principles down into his book, “The Science of Getting Rich” which he had put into practice in his life.

This book is not a book that is based on philosophy but on practicality. The book goes on to teach the reader how to become rich by following principles of getting rich. Not only have these principles brought Wallace D. Wattles prosperity and success, whoever have read this book and put its principles to practice has experienced the same blessing of riches. Such a person is Rebecca Fine. She was in the network marketing business but she did not see much success in her business until she came across the book, “The Science of Getting Rich” by Walace D. Wattles. The book changed her thinking and she shared it with her network marketing business partner. In just a few months, she began to prosper in her business and became top earners in her business. Since then, Rebecca Fine has been sharing the principles she learned from “The Science of Getting Rich” to many people and she distributed this book for free. She has also formed a Science of Getting Rich Network.
