First, let me put forth my disclaimer here. This is just a simple article addressed to simple laymen sharing what I understand and believe about personal development and what it has done for me and what I have seen how it has helped other people to become successful. It is not meant to be definitive on what personal development is about.

Simply put, personal development is about educating and training a person to bring out the best in an individual to manage one’s life better. There are many personal development training companies that charge exorbitant fees for a training workshop that last just a few hours to a few days. Personally, I have attended a 5-day workshop that cost me $1000. The personal development industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and professional training for personal development does not come cheap. Famous personal development coaches are paid several thousand dollars an hour just to give a speech.

So what does personal development encompass? There are several aspects to personal development training. First of all, personal development can be an umbrella term that refers to any discipline dealing with a person’s inward issues dealing with emotions, personal discipline, personal philosophies, life perspectives, etc. just to name a few. Some other personal development trainings focus on more specific areas such as communicating with others, building and maintaining relationships, time management, financial management, wealth creation, health and fitness, etc.

Why Personal Development?

I believe that as you grew up from a child studying in a school to an adult working at your job, you’ve come across classmates and colleagues who stood out from the crowd in some areas of their life. You may have classmates who excelled in their studies and won awards and scholarships with ease while you struggled just to keep in pace with your academic work. Some peers kept high profiles. They are not only presidents of clubs and societies, but also captains of their respective sports and they still managed to ace their exams. Perhaps it is a colleague who gets along well with almost anybody and a magnet to members of the opposite sex. May be it is another colleague who always tops his sales and is promoted way ahead of everyone else.

It is no secret that these people who are very real in our everyday lives possess talents and qualities that we do not. Things we tend to struggle with seem to come naturally to them. This is because they have skills that we do not possess. Some of these skills are natural to them (talent) while some may be developed.

The classmate of yours who is a scholar certainly possessed study skills and memory skills that most of your classmates and you did not possess. And I believe he was able to read his books much faster than you could. If he managed many other profiles such as presidents or captains, he certainly knew how to manage his time well and possessed leadership skills as well.

How Does Personal Development Work?

The good news is that we may not be as good as these successful people who live among us but we can become as good as they are or even better through personal development. In personal development, we simply analyze the skills that these people possess and we learn to develop these skills for ourselves by imitating them in order to be as good as they are. What were not natural to us, we can always develop through a conscious effort if only we have the determination and desire to achieve followed by massive, consistent actions. Yes, I said, “massive, consistent actions.” You are trying to overcome and undo those habits, personal traits, belief system, emotions and life philosophies that you have been believing and practicing as long as you have lived that have hindered you from being successful. It is not going to change overnight just by reading a book or listening to a message.

Matt Morris, the founder of Success University, was such an example when he immersed himself into the study of Personal Development and rose above his situation of being homeless and in debt to become a self-made millionaire. In his own words, he quoted Tony Robbins saying, “If you want to achieve success, find someone else who has done it, figure out how they did it, do the same thing and you get the same results.”

So does Personal Development really work? The proof in the pudding is in the eating. However, practicing personal development is not just eating a pudding. It is like taking constant medication taken over a period of time in order for the healing to manifest. You do not take your medication for one day and decided that the medicine does not work just because you do not get well immediately. Many of today’s famous personal development coaches were once defeated in life such as Matt Morris, Johnny Wimbrey and Les Brown. In Singapore, there is a man named Adam Khoo who was a total academic failure. In his teens, he attended a workshop on studying skills and together with his determination to prove his personal worth, he became one of the top students in his secondary school and university. He then wrote a book entitled, “I am Gifted, So are You!
” in which he shared the skills he had learned and applied that have turned his failures into success. Adam Khoo firmly believed that what he has achieved through his training and practice, others can too. Today, Adam Khoo has become a young self-made millionaire. Together with his friends, Stuart Tan and Patrick Cheo, they have built Adam Khoo Learning Technologies Group (AKLTG) teaching and training children and teenager who have self-esteem issues and challenged in their academic performance.

Take Action Today!

The ball is in your court. You can choose to take actions and transform your life or you can choose to be cynical, skeptical and critical and live the rest of your life the way it has always been.

People who take risk understands that taking risk requires only a moment, while not taking risk becomes a lifestyle.

Sigmund Freud said that, “You become a product of your environment.” But that is if you choose to allow yourself to become a product of your environment. The You-Factor is you choose what you want to do.

Who is Johnny Wimbrey?

These are some of Johnny Wimbrey’s signature statements. In my first article on Life Coaches (Personal Development Coaches), I introduced Matt Morris, the founder of Success University. In this second article on Life Coach (Personal Development Coach), I am introducing Johnny Wimbrey.

Johnny Wimbrey is a personal development coach cum celebrity who has his own TV program, “The Johnny Wimbrey Show!” He is also a best-selling author, world-renowned motivational speaker and an industry consultant. Johnny Wimbrey was once homeless, living in a battered women’s shelter. Growing up in an environment infested with drugs and violence, he soon became a teenage drug peddler and engaged in gang violence. His turning point came at the age of 18 when his friend was murdered. He was determined to seek revenge for his murdered friend after attending his friend’s funeral carrying a gun with him. During that funeral, he heard the mother of his murdered friend said that she forgave the person who murdered his son. That sentence totally changed Johnny Wimbrey. From then on, Johnny Wimbrey decided that he would not let his past and environment determine his future. Abandoning his past of drugs and violence, he became an insurance agent at the age of 20. Within less than 2 years, Johnny Wimbrey rose through the ranks in the insurance industry where he trained experienced regional managers. With the high demand for Johnny Wimbrey’s service, he decided to use his skills in helping others from industry leaders, celebrities to young people who are struggling to break free from gang violence.

From The Hood To Doing Good

In Johnny Wimbrey’s best-selling book, “From The Hood To Doing Good”, he related his life story and taught on the principles on how you can decide to be a winner in life and not let your environment determines your future. The word “HOOD” in the book title is actually an acronym for “Hazardous Obstacles Of Destructions”. In this book, Johnny Wimbrey teaches you how to learn to be successful from inside out; and that success is happy from the inside out, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially. Even if you are broke, you can get it again if you have success on the inside of you.

The Johnny Wimbrey’s Show!

The following video is a recording of “The Johnny Wimbrey’s Show!” In this recording, you will see Johnny reaching out to two girls to help them break free from one of Los Angeles’ most violent gangs.

Hanieh talks to Johnny Wimbrey on Life Success TV

The following 3-part video is an interview with Johnny Wimbrey on Life Success TV. Life Success TV is a TV show that interviews life coaches, motivational speakers, etc. who are successful in life and teaches success to people. In the first video, Johnny Wimbrey talks about his life story and the how he could turn around in his life because he is coachable and a student for life. Johnny Wimbrey shared a little more about those two girls and talked about how to get involved with the community and how he involves himself with the youths involved with gangs.

In the third video, Johnny Wimbrey talked about the people who has influenced him and impacted his life whom he looked up to, such as his teachers and personal devleopment coach, Les Brown, etc. He always have the attitude of a student who wants to learn from anybody. He will never try to outshine somebody else in their own show. At the end of the show, Johnny Wimbrey delivers his signature statements.

Where you come from has nothing from where you’re going. Who you are on the outside will never determine who you are on the inside. But who you are on the inside will determine what you are on the outside. Winning begins on the inside out. You can win if you attached the 3 things “WIN” – Willing, take Initiative and the attitude that you’ll Never give up. When you understand the possibility to deserve of winning, then only it begin to manifest.

Johnny Wimbrey’s Lecture

In this last video posted here, Johnny Wimbrey teaches on the mind of an entrepreneur. Johnny Wimbrey teaches on being at the right place at the right time.

Are you willing to do today what others don’t, to have tomorrow what others won’t.

Some other people’s mentality don’t have to become your reality.

The first impression is the lasting impression.

Adversity causes some people to break while others become record breaker.

Decision and choices I make has made my mess, my message.

Your past does not have to determine your future and where you come from does not have to dictate where you’re going.

ENJOY the lecture!

Matt Morris’ parents divorced when he was 4 years old. A year later, his father broke into his mother’s home and murdered her mother’s boy friend and ended up in jail. At the age of 13, his father committed suicide. That was Matt Morris’ childhood.

At the age of 21, Matt Morris was $30,000 in debt and jobless. He was homeless and lived in his car, taking shower in the rain and petrol kiosk wash room. His turning point came when he listened to a Tony Robbins’ cassette tape. He decided to immerse himself in Personal Development. For 8 hours a day, he would study any subjects in Personal Development. Quoting Tony Robbins, he said, “If you want to be successful, study what successful people have done and imitate what they do.”

From then on to the age of 24, Matt Morris turned from being $30,000 in debt to earning $100,000 a year. From the age of 24 to 29, Matt Morris became a self-made millionaire and founded his own network marketing company, Success University.

Watch the Fox Channel news broadcast on Matt Morris, the President cum CEO of Success University.

On the 1 June 2009, Success University has merged with one of the biggest network marketing company on Travel Industry, World Ventures. This is a marriage between a multi-billion dollar Personal Development Industry with a 7 trillion dollar Travel Industry.

The following 2 videos are from the WORLD VENTURES 2008 National Convention.

Success University now offers you the best of both worlds. You have a 24 hours a day, seven days a week website where you can access your learning resources on Personal Development. Now, you can also begin earning commissions selling vacation packages to people without having to have enough capital to set up your own travel company.

Now perhaps you do not believe in the travel industry and you do not believe in network marketing company. But I believe that you do believe that Warren Buffet is the world greatest investor (at least a great investor even if you do not believe that too). In 2003, Warren Buffet bought over a network marketing company called “The Pampered Chef”. Seems like Warren Buffet believes in network marketing company which opposes what many people believe. Bill Gates founded the No. 1 travel site in the world. Donald Trump started in 2006 his own travel website. Steve Case, founder of AOL, is now a chairman of a luxury travel company with holdings in excess of 1 million dollars. If such successful people believe and have invested into the travel industry, do you still have any doubt?
